The 2004 new year marked
the opening of a new addition on the TTU campus—a 92,680-SF residence hall, located at the corner
of North Dixie Avenue and Ninth Street, which was formerly
home to Dixie/Rye and Meadows/Early dormitories.
Preliminary design work included a master plan of the
quadrangle, which allows for future facilities similar
to the hall and demolition design of the site to
make way for the new addition. The four-story Georgian-style
design blends with the predominant campus architecture
and consists of three wings, which feature 180 double
occupancy rooms. Interior finishes of the rooms, which
contain ample closet space and private baths, are warm
and inviting, a step above institutional Navaho white
walls.
Amenities include an expansive three-story atrium lobby,
which features a striking purple wallcovering as its
focal point, Artistone terrazzo tile flooring, oak panels,
and soft pendant and sconce lighting. A nicely appointed
lounge is located off the atrium, as well as two staff
offices and conference space. Other common spaces include
a laundry with adjoining lounge, three study rooms,
and multi-purpose room. Resident assistant and hall
director quarters are interspersed among the floors
of the co-educational facility, which incorporates life
safety features and complies with the American Disabilities
Act.
